About us

Who We Are

Global Trust for the Differently Abled is a Non-Profit Organisation working for the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Marginalised women and Children in Tamilnadu state of India. This organization was established in 2013 by Mrs. M.Kumudham a pioneer in the field of rehabilitating children with special needs and persons with disabilities. After 25 years of her experience, she realised that the need of comprehensive rehabilitation service for the children and persons with intellectual disabilities in Cuddalore and surrounding districts.

By her noble vision of building inclusive sustainable community she started Global Special School for the intellectual disabilities with 25 Children. Currently its service area is extended up to 4 Districts and 250 children and 5000 families got benefited through institutional and community based rehabilitation programs.

Our main focus area of intervention is to provide, Early intervention, Special and Inclusive Education, Multimodal Therapy, Medical Referrals, Vocational training and Livelihood Promotions. Adopting Research, Training and Education strategies in all our program interventions which help us to provide meaningful service with suitable corrective solutions through holistic development approach with community participation.

Shift from Institutional Interventions to Community Development approach

Over the years, through direct engagement with children and families at its Global Residential Special School, our organisation observed that most beneficiaries come from highly vulnerable socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, often marked by poverty, limited education, and social isolation.

Our experience revealed that institutional care alone cannot ensure holistic rehabilitation. True and sustainable progress requires addressing the family’s emotional, social, and economic well-being, especially that of mothers and siblings who bear the brunt of caregiving and economic strain. Recognising the deep interlink between disability and poverty, Global Trust redefined its intervention strategy to include community-based rehabilitation and empowerment initiatives.

Currently, Global Trust’s continuum of care spans from institutional rehabilitation to community development, focusing on:

  • Comprehensive rehabilitation for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities through residential care, life skills training, special education, therapies, and support for inclusive education pathways.
  • Skill development and livelihood promotion for persons with cross disabilities.
  • Residential care and independent living support with vocational training for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Empowerment programs for mothers, siblings, and women and children from marginalised communities.

While institutional programs are supported by Central and State Government departments, community-based initiatives are sustained through CSR partnerships, NGOs, local organisations, patrons, and individual donors.

This evolution marks Global Trust’s continued journey from institutional rehabilitation to inclusive, community-driven development, ensuring dignity, participation, and sustainable livelihoods for persons with disabilities, women, and children from marginalised communities.
